Book to be discussed: "A Man and His Garden: The Story of Pierre S. du Pont's Development of Longwood Gardens" by George E. Thompson, Sr. and Richard G. Taylor.Library: Phoenixville Public Library
Longwood Gardens has been acclaimed as one of the world's outstanding horticultural exhibitions. It attracts more than a million visitors a year to view not only breathtaking conservatory displays but also outdoor gardens and flower beds, arboreta, an open-air theater and spectacular colored fountains. For more than a year George Thompson collected information from the members of the Longwood Gardens staff who were closely associated with Mr. du Pont in the creation of the gardens. He drew upon his own personal service with Mr. du Pont, as well as historical and biographical material in the P. S. du Pont files of the Eleutherian Mills Historical Library.
Passes to Longwood Gardens (each for up to 4 people) will be raffled off for free at this meeting.
