HSPA Virtual Museum Tour: Vietnam War Experiences of Adam Deveney

 Conflict in Vietnam spanned the long period from 1959 through April of 1975. In March of 1965 United States involvement began when President Johnson ordered U.S. troops to Vietnam to defend the U.S. airbase there. Both China and the Soviet Union threatened to intervene if the U.S went any farther. By 1967 U.S. troop numbers stationed in Vietnam increased to 500,000. In January of 1973 President Nixon signed the Paris Peace Accords, ending direct U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. By March 1973 The last U.S. troops were withdrawn from Vietnam and 591 American Prisoners of war were returned. In 1975 North Vietnam overran Saigon, and South Vietnam surrendered. The total number of U.S. military lost was 58,193.

Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area member Adam Deveney, who served as a Captain in the U.S. Marines from 1966 to 1973, will present a short video discussing his experiences in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He had over 692 missions. The video will be followed by a question and answer period.
