"Excited about dancing? Thrilled by the customs of yesteryear? Love being part of a group?
If you’re in middle or high school (grades 6-12) you can join our free social dancing workshop at the Downingtown Library. Folk dancing includes a wide variety of dances where people begin in circles or lines and then move through set patterns together. It is not “line dancing,” because you’ll be dancing WITH others by joining hands and linking elbows to swing. Never tried dancing before? That’s just fine; the instructor Katherine Hansen of Summerwind Dance Society will teach the dance step-by-step before everyone enjoys a dance together. We’ll keep it fresh by playing a mix of traditional and modern music. It’s more fun when you bring a friend, but no partners are required. Be prepared laugh, learn, work up a sweat, and meet someone new. Respect for self and fellow dancers is a priority, so Katherine sets the tone and monitors all interactions. Summerwind Dance Society focuses on creating a greater sense of inclusion through dance and socialization. The workshop is FREE, please sign up on the library’s website.
