The Reason for a Flower: A CCL - Longwood Gardens Community Read Program

 In partnership with Longwood Gardens Community Read, the Chester County Library Youth Services Department is pleased to present a series of four exciting programs about Botanical Science for seven to eleven year olds. Based on Ruth Hellerís classic book, The Reason for a Flower, the series will focus the mysterious world of seeds and plants. Under the guidance of Mr. Turner, the participants with examine a variety of seeds and learn about their parts. They will plant seeds and examine them, with magnifying glasses and microscopes, as they sprout and grow. They will learn about soil and how it helps plants grow. Participants will plant their sprouts in the Library Garden and take some home to plant in their own yards. In addition, they will have the opportunity to observe caterpillars as they eat and eat and eat and build their chrysalides, then release the Painted Lady Butterflies after they hatch.
