"Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng.
The intertwined stories of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the mother and daughter who upend their lives. Set in Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, Elena Richardson's guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren--enigmatic artist and single mother of her teen-aged daughter, Pearl--who rents a house from the Richardsons. Their lives become entanged when old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby and a custody battle ensues that divides the town and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides.
