Reading the Classics - Medea

Event Type: Adults
Date: 10/18/2018
Start Time: 7:00 PM
Join us this fall for Reading the Classics with Dr Shanyn Fiske. In September and October, we will be reading Euripides's tragedy Medea and Toni Morrison's novel Beloved, two texts from very distinct historical moments that tell stories of infanticide. Why might a mother be driven to kill her own children? Is such an act ever justifiable? Is "maternal instinct" an inborn trait or a modern social construct? We will explore these and other questions in our sessions starting Thursday, September 20 at 7pm at the Kennett Library. Please note that no prior reading of these texts is required.
