Event Type: Adults
Date: 11/15/2018
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 7:30 PM
Description:
Explore Japanese art with art historian Jaan Troltenier. Jaan dons one of her many personas, playing a noodle seller, Katsuo Mirasuki, a 19th century collector of the woodblock prints of
famed artist Utagawa Hiroshige. Woodblock prints of this time period were bright, bold, and innovative in design; they were inexpensive enough to provide enjoyment for everyone. Part
interactive art history exploration and part performance, the presentation will focus on master artist Hiroshige’s start in art, the interplay between his work and that of Western artists, and his inventive, creative style. We will tour Edo-period Japan and its culture through art. No background in history or art history necessary. This program supports the PA Forward Civic and Social Literacy Initiative.
