DOWNINGTOWN—THE TRANSFORMATION OF A VILLAGE 1860-1910Library: Downingtown Library
When Downingtown became a borough in 1859, it was primarily a farm village. In 50 years, the population grew 4x and several large factories and mills employed a large percentage of the Borough’s workers. The focus of this presentation will be a comparison between 1860 and 1910, emphasizing changes in demographics, housing, businesses and land use. Data visualization through the use of charts, maps and tables will tell this story.
